N9Apps: Easy Answer

Its been way too long since my last N9Apps post. I am going to try to do at least one a week. Now today’s app is called Easy Answer. It’s another one of those apps that just makes the N9 easier to use.
And, similarly, to end the call:

What does it do?
It runs in the background (if enabled) to make answering and ending calls so much easier. There are a few options for answering the call. These are:

- On Ear: Raise the phone to your ear to answer the call’
- Power Button: Double press power button to answer the call
- Shaking: Shake the phone for a moment to answer a call
And, similarly, to end the call:

It’s really simple. I have been using it for a few days now, and it makes it just that bit easier to receive/end calls on the device. Especially since I do this thing with my phone, where I spin it before placing it in my pocket, so the shake to end feature is really handy. I like seeing apps like this that take the whole “gesture” experience of the N9 so much further.

90,000 Apps on Windows Phone Marketplace

Just a heads up. There’s now 90,000 Apps for WP marketplace. Rafe has the usual breakdown of the details as always:
This makes it a total of (probably?) over 200,000 apps available collectively for all Nokia devices, were we to measure it like that – I mean, Nokia Store is itself a collection of apps for different mobile OS and variants.
To reiterate however, I’m not fussed on numbers. I care more about quality. Numbers might just be a useful thing to attract devs (well, once it reaches that threshold where it’s no longer described as anaemic in comparison to competition).

Hi folks. As you may notice, the stuff we got from Nokia World is slowly trickling in today. This is our first video with the Asha 300 touch and type. Pretty much the very popular C3-01 with 1GHz, polish in the design and an additional messaging button. My sister loves her C3-01. Can’t get enough of the Opera browser.
Oh, you can also see Angry Birds demoed here. No more necessity to get a smartphone. Now the millions of S40 users can enjoy throwing poultry to kill some swines.

BTW this video is recorded by the N8. I am stunned not only by the brilliant picture quality, but also by the audio. Right there in person I thought none of this would come through as it was so noisy. The mic placements and the continuous autofocus when set to macro is perfect for events like this. No wonder @Chippy uses a N8 for his stuff.

One of Finland’s finest, Angry Birds now has over 500,000 million downloads. Half a Billion downloads of Angry Birds?! Crickey!
I’m not sure there is a platform now without Angry Birds.
It’s no surprise really, given that it’s possibly the first “app” anyone thinks of when talking about smartphones. It’s going to reach even further scales now Nokia is pushing it into their s40 mobile phones (which make up a larger and larger chunk of the 100m a day sold by Nokia.)

CoJoGo – Brazilian made Nokia N9 egg game – free at Nokia Store

Melissa, a developer and designer from Brazil emailed us about her application for MeeGo-Harmattan (Nokia N9) called, Co – The Game/’Co (JoGo)’. They said (and they noted their English wasn’t too good)
One day we had the idea to make a simple game for mobile, different from all the complex things we have today, agame where you take the eggs from the chickens while it fell to the ground. Then, little by little and make conseguinhos viable platform for Meego, the first Brazilian to play Nokia N9.
It’s free at the Nokia Store. I haven’t got a N9 so I haven’t tried it myself.
In this game you have to help the farmer to catch the eggs. Each level has a different number and type of chickens, also each chicken can lay different types of eggs, challenging the hability of player.
The user controls a basket that is used to catch the eggs using the phone sensors (tilt to move), so the controls are easy to learn and fun to use.
On all levels we store the number of eggs catched and crased, so you can compare you hability with friend

Here’s a really cool game someone’s demoed on the Nokia N9. It’s called Roboto and it looks great. I can only describe it as some kind of robotic type Mario platform style game with Sonic ring sounds and a bit of Gravity Guy thrown in. Eh?
Probably best to take a look yourself. There’s a robot and you control him on his adventure in collecting points and destroying the enemy with his gun-thingy.
Lumiappaday #11: Penguin demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800

Sunday’s Lumiappaday is an game called Penguin. It’s really simple but it’s really addictive. I’ve you’ve ever played Tiny Wings, the game play is pretty much like that. Press down to dive and release to flap the penguin’s wings. Time it just right so that you dive on a downward slope that helps gain momentum and speed as you launch your penguin back up.

Design: 7 The premise of this game is to make a flightless bird, fly. Here we have a penguin and it is in expected chilly, icy surroundings. When the penguin is flying, you can see him flap his wings. The faster he goes, the game zooms out slightly so you can see more of the surroundings. The hills change colour with different levels.
It’s not pushing the graphics, but it still looks great though having seen Tiny Wings, my expectations are slightly raised. You’ve got music playing in the background and sound effects when your penguin crashes or picks up fish.
The ads are intermittent, although they do sometimes detract. Hey, it makes the game free.
It could push itself a little further in terms of animations, perhaps with a video intro, improve backgrounds.
Usability: 9. I couldn’t understand how to work this the very first time I played it. But once I did it got really addictive. It’s simple – just press the screen to dive and release to let your penguin flap its wings. It’s just a case then of coordinating when to dive so that you slide down the slope and not crash on an upward one.
It helps if you’re having problems by having green highlighted on the downward slope and red on the upward ones. These disappear when you’re moving quite well, and the game assumes you’ve understood the controls.
Performance: 10 Much better than before (on my Omnia7). As I’ve mentioned in other reviews, these developers are constantly updating their apps. Fast start, stable, resumes instantly (though you just have to press resume afterwards and continue precisely where you left off). It’s instances like that where you’d prefer the game not to run in the background when multitasking.
The visuals are fast and fluid.
Price: 10. It’s free, add supported. The ads appear in game though so you do have something blocking the game screen. It intermittently disappears but it’s there more times than it’s not.
Conclusion: Great, simple addictive free game. Perfect casual game to pick up anywhere and kill some time.
p.s. I’ve got some more visually appealing games to show, but it’s just a case of finding the time next week to record them. I think that whilst I have too many apps to show to limit to just one app a day, I think I’m going to have to based on the demands of Uni Work. These videos are a little more time consuming than I expected them to be what with filming and editing and processing then working out the screenshots and then the written review. I love doing them though. It makes a great contrast to everything else that I’m doing but I just have to limit the time I spend to make sure none of the other stuff (esp Uni) suffers. Hope there are people out there finding Lumiappaday useful. The apps themselves might not be to everyone’s taste but hopefully you can see there’s always new content to put on your Lumias.

This wasn’t what I thought when I read, “Angry Birds Dress”. I’m not a fashion expert, but as iltasanomat reports, it does look quite elegant and stylish for a dress that’s themed around a light hearted game of Angry Birds, no? Jomojn who tipped this in also likes the dress. That eye is quite captivating.
Jumojn tells us that as part of the Independence Day celebration for Finland today (December 6th), the Teija Vesterbacka wife of Peter Vesterbacka (Rovio’s CEO, Creator of the spectacularly popular Angry Birds) wore an Angry Birds dress.
Very tastefully done – designed by Katri Niskanen. Fellow fashion designer Justin Niskanen said the result was “ result is a stylish and elegant”.

This lumiappaday is not what was scheduled since I seem to have accidentally deleted the video, but I think this one is quite apt based on what many might be doing today. Binge eating, the time of plenty and over indulgence.

Nom Nom Worm is harks back to the classic Nokia like game of moving around the screen to grab food. This one is accelerometer based. I was really surprised how smooth and responsive the accelerometer is here (and other accelerometer games on WP) as I’ve not had that experience before on my other Nokias. It’s so accurate, you can happily dodge around with ease, possibly even better than if there were touch or even button controls.
It is incredibly easy to pick up and use and ridiculously addictive. I think the video demo could have been a lot shorter it’s just I kept wanting to play on. I only died because I kinda had to really :p.
