Nokia 808 PureView for $599.99 at Amazon US

This is a third party seller and there are only two in stock, but Amazon US has the Nokia 808 PureView for just $599.99 now. That’s equivalent to about £316/€400. Amazon UK still has this priced quite high at £474.99, with Amazon Germany at €547.

Lumiappaday #173: Warp demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800

This game reminds me a little of System Rush Evolution, a pretty cool 3D racing game on the N93/N95. It’s an accelerometer based racing style game, though you’re not really racing anyone, just travelling along this very lumia inspired tube. There are items to try and get and obstacles avoid.

#173) Warp

Price:  £0.99

Developer Blurb:
Control the spaceship by tilting your phone left or right. Avoid obstacles inside the tube, catch different types of bonuses, and advance from level to level.

The full version will unlock the following features:
- An infinite number of levels (the trial version is limited to the first 4 levels).
- New bonuses
- New types of obstacles
- Ability to publish your score to an online global leaderboard

New in version 1.1:
- The text notification for power-ups now leaves the screen quickly
- In the full version you can publish your score to the new online leaderboard

Lumiappaday #174: Totemo demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800

Totemo is a cross platform puzzle game. As you can guess, there is a Totem Pole/Shaman theme. The aim of the game is to release/guide the spirits. Basically match things. Some spirits need to be paired (And can only be paired with those on the same vertical or horizontal axis). They may only need one or they may need three. There might be more aspects to this – I only showed some a few levels in the demo.
I like the look and the gameplay a lot. Definitely worth giving a go in the trial to see if you’ll like it too.

#174) Totemo

Developer Blurb:

Unloose the spirit, break the spell in a unique puzzle game.

Uncover the mystery hidden between the realms in a unique puzzle game. Travel to enchanted places of the past with your witch doctor guide and solve over 100 logic tasks.

Play at your own pace. Think hard and weight carefully your next move, or just stroke your moves intuitively and let the solution emerge in front of your eyes.

Play the survival mode for extra challenge, make your stand against the time and write your name into the on-line leaderboards.

Lumiappaday #175: Rocket Riot demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800 XboxLive

At first glance from the screenshots, Rocket Riot doesn’t look all that exciting.  This is actually a surprisingly fun and addictive game and looks really exciting in that retro-modern splash kinda thing. Apparently this was an Xbox Live arcade game that is ported to WP7. Not sure how it was on non-touch but it’s pretty awesome on the Lumia. The controls are like ‘Square Off’, navigate on the left and flick to fire on the right. But they’re much better and much more responsive, making killing the enemies more effective.
I also like the powerups – there are various available that enhance your weapon. However, beware that some powerup boxes actually hinder  you. One of the neatest things of the game is that you can destroy the environment around you – smash down the walls with your rockets. They’ll grow back over time so you can use this in your strategy.
I’ve only played the demo – there’s a campaign mode and a quick-mode available. I think it’s on my to get list.

#175) Rocket Riot

Developer Blurb:
Strap on your bazooka soldier, and get ready for the new and improved mobile version of the awesome action-packed side-view shooter Rocket Riot™. In this highly stylized eight-bit era style game, blast your way through the environment against the strangest enemies you will ever encounter. Navigate through a completely destructible environment, uncover special power-ups, or even burrow into different areas of the map. The map regenerates, keeping the action fast-paced, but time doesn’t heal all wounds.

Video: Nokia City Lens for Nokia Lumia: Augmented Reality Browser (Beta)

Jason Walsh from Nokia shares this presentation of Nokia City Lens. This lets you explore and discover things around you – apparently not just in an arbitrary way but showing you what’s actually around you. It’s not anything particularly new to me, but I do applaud them on this style of presentation that shows off what something does.
It’s pretty nice how you can get various views, from augmented reality to standard map mode by simply moing your phone from one plane to another. No tapping in menus or waiting for things to load.
Nokia City Lens http://nokia.ly/Im17jr instantly connects you to all of the places you’re looking for—and even more importantly—gets you there exactly when and how you want to. Now available on Nokia Betalabs.
Just landed in town and looking for a good restaurant? Interested in checking out the local museum or theater? Time to hit the nearest transit station to catch a ride uptown? No longer is finding your chosen destination a hassle—whether you’re in a new city or your hometown.
Now you can simply launch Nokia City Lens on your phone to easily find all the places you want to go. City Lens instantly reveals what you’re looking for on your phone’s camera display, no matter if it’s down the street or just around the corner.
You simply tap your chosen destination on your screen to conveniently access walking directions, make a reservation, or learn more detailed information about the locale.

MOAR APPS! Nokia Announces New WP Apps at CTIA

  • Rovio – titles starting with Angry Birds Space join the original Angry Birds game in coming to Nokia Lumia and Windows Phone consumers- it would seem that Nokia and Rovio put any conflicts about ditching Symbian after getting the Angry Birds guys to commit behind them, and are now moving forward making this world a better place- one green Pig at a time.
“Nokia is one of our longest-standing partners, and Windows Phone and Lumia are of strategic importance to Rovio. We are very committed to bring our games to Lumia devices, and are looking forward to delighting our fans on the Windows Phone platform,” said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio

I just think it’s worth pointing out that Some apps are starting to LAUNCH off of WP rather than being ported to it, which is definitely a good sign of a strong ecosystem (now well over 80K apps).

Lumiappaday #176: Your Manga Reader demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800

Your Manga Reader is a fully functioning Manga reader that allows you to download and read thousands (not an exaggeration) of comics in either English or Vietnamese.  Personally I’m not a huge Manga guy (hardly at all) but I know alot of people who are practically addicted so this might come in handy.
- I assume the awkward screen resolution is due to the default WP resolution?

Lumiappaday #177: I Dig It demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800 XboxLive

This was one of the very first games I tried on WP. It’s a digging game, and you’re a digging strategy machine. Make your way to mine some items which you can sell at the surface. Your digger uses up petrol to power the digger and the rockets (for going back up to the surface etc) which you will need to replenish. That will cost some dough as will upgrading/fixing your digger. In the demo there are mini missions on what to do and apparently according to the developer blurb, many different environments.

#177) I dig it

Price:  £2.29

Developer Blurb:
Embark on an epic adventure with the fantastic digging machine.
Travel the world in search of ancient artifacts, lost civilizations, and unimaginable treasure. There are six exotic locations to explore:

* Pilot the intrepid digger in the frozen wastelands of the Antarctic on the trail of a 100 year old lost expedition.
* Search for pirate treasure in the south Asian Ocean.
* Search for lost tombs, mummies and other rare artifacts in the Egyptian desert.
* Trek grounds beneath the sweltering jungle in search of lost Aztec treasure.
* Descend to the center of the earth at the Kuma Manych trench in Eastern Europe.
* Search for valuable minerals and gems in the midwest United States.

Prove your strategic thinking, exploration, and puzzle solving skills. Manage fuel, drill temperature, hull damage, cargo space, oxygen, etc while searching for underground diggins. Sell your rare collection of artifacts to earn cash. Use cash to upgrade your digging machine, make repairs, or purchase additional supplies.

SymbianApps: iBomber Defence available at Nokia Store, optimised for Symbian.

Another quick heads up: This is iBomber Defence available for RM16 at Nokia Store.
OPTIMIZED FOR SYMBIAN! iBomber Defense combines classic tower defence game play with the intense action and strategy of the original iBomber franchise. Keep enemies at bay all over the world using a variety of weapons and tactics, from rattling machine guns, explosive cannons and awesome anti-aircraft artillery. Choose from Quick play and Campaign modes as you battle across North Africa, Europe and Russia playing as both the Allied and Axis forces.
Cheers KF for the tip!

Lumiappdates: Portals 2D with new levels to download + level editor

I don’t normally write posts about WP app updates (there’d be too many) but this is one I wanted to share because it makes the game more usable (again).
Actually I missed the 1.3 update (I may have blindly clicked update as it’s too easy to update stuff).
I loved the game ‘Portals 2D’ but the game ended a little too quickly for me. Fortunately from 1.3 onwards, you can create your own levels and download some more online from other users. What’s cool is that even on the online levels, you can still see a mini animated demo of the level, which wil start instantly when you tap it (no downloading? :S).
Ah, pretty much endless supply of levels means I can always use this as an occasional time waster. (So many times portals 2D has helped me kill time waiting for things, appointments, delayed trains etc :p)
Update 1.4: Minor fixes; screen should not go black after restarting some levels, playing your own levels does not count toward its popularity, author name shown above level name. Also a server-side fix stopping levels from appearing multiple times.
Update 1.3: Sorry for the slow update, I’ve been busy with University. This release has a Level Editor and online directory of levels, fixed portal bug, a few animation / sound fixes, small performance optimisations. Hopefully coming soon: Resizable custom levels, ability to pre-place portals in levels, more details about plays/completes/dificulty of custom levels, ability to search custom levels by ID, save custom levels locally and share level files with friends.
To update, just go to marketplace (Live Tile tells you how many updates you have available) Scroll to Portals 2D or update all of them.

iBomber Defense for S^3 – Demoed on N8

Here’s a pretty cool game that was just released for Symbian devices- it’s called iBomber Defense and it’s pretty sweet.

I think the N9 did a pretty decent job focusing on such small movements on the screen- quite impressive.
